What's the difference between period underwear and normal underwear?

From the outside, period underwear looks and feels like normal underwear. The difference is hidden inside: period underwear has extra absorbent, moisture-wicking, and leak-proof layers built into the gusset that normal underwear doesn't have.

That means you can wear period underwear as menstrual protection on its own, while normal underwear offers no absorbency. Period underwear is also made to be rinsed and washed for repeated menstrual use.
